So, the year is drawing to a close. How was 2017 for you?

So, the year is drawing to a close. How was 2017 for you?
23 November 2017

It’s time now to look forward to 2018.
Many people think about improving their health at New Year.
Last year I did dry January for the first time and I would recommend it to you. If like me you like a few wines at the weekend you will most likely lose a bit of weight easily by giving it up for a while, I did. I also found it reset the amount I drank, when I went back to it in February I drank less. As I write this we are in Mouth Cancer Action month, alcohol is a major risk factor for oral cancer. So why not give it a go.

Sticking with oral health are you using an electric toothbrush yet? Switching from manual to electric has shown to improve gum health as they are more effective at removing plaque than a manual brush. Gum health has been increasing linked to diabetes and heart disease. So, improving your gums may well improve your general health as well.
So, if all your family are nagging what do you want for Christmas the answer is an electric toothbrush! (From Lindley Dental of course)

Also at the start of this year I read Michael Mosley’s book the 8-week blood sugar diet. I brought this book following an interesting discussion with a patient about it. Obesity and diabetes are on the increase and both are a serious threat to our health.

This book explains very well how we all consume too much sugar/starch in our diets and rather than satisfying us it just makes us want more. The book advises how to re-programme yourself and so lose weight, stay healthy and live longer. It is a very interesting read and it has changed how I eat. So, another request to Santa for you! Of course sugar is bad news for your teeth so reducing it helps them too.

When looking through your Christmas photos you may decide that the appearance of your smile could be improved. Why not make 2018 the year you do something, maybe some whitening or some adult braces? Any of the Lindley team would be happy to discuss it with you.

So, enjoy what is left of 2017!
Have a lovely Christmas break.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2018 from all of us at Lindley Dental
