Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Did you enjoy the summer?
As you may know I like to travel and this summer has been no exception. Myself and my family have been lucky enough to go to Jamaica in July then Japan in August. It is said that travel broadens the mind and one of the things that struck me while away was the different views on what is attractive.
We flew into Kingston the capital of Jamaica and the flight was a bit unusual in that many of the passengers were not English holiday makers but Jamaicans. Being a sad dentist, I was looking at their teeth of course. There was a noticeable number of gold crowns on display. Most people in the UK now would not be happy to have a gold crown in the front of their mouth, preferring tooth coloured alternatives. Not so it would seem with the Jamaicans-they like their bling!
In Japan again, what is perceived as desirable on the beauty front is different from many of us in the UK think. There a pale skin is what you aim for. It was very noticeable that they don’t sunbathe, they cover up on the beach and using a parasol to shade yourself from the sun is very common. Some ladies apply white make up to make themselves look paler still.
Once back a work we were running a “draw your dentist” competition amongst our younger patients, which has made us smile. It was interesting to see how the children saw us! No-one drew me, to which I wasn’t sure whether to be relieved or slightly offended!
Anyway, beauty is a perception and we all have different views on it. If your smile is not how you would like talk to us at Lindley dental. We won’t try and impose our ideas on you, what you think is what matters.
September to be always seems more like New Year than January. Holidays have been taken, the children are back at school and it’s time to make plans. So I hope this “year” goes well for you!
