Beginnings

Beginnings
20 April 2020

When I wrote my last blog on having the practice for 20 years, I was not expecting the next few weeks to be as different as they have been! We went from not doing certain treatments to emergencies only to totally closed in a truly short space of time. We are now totally closed and don’t know as yet when we can re-open, strange times ideal.

So, what have we been doing with all this extra time? Well dentist Karl has started writing a blog-Capricious Ramblings of a Millennial. Here is the first one.

Perhaps we can all start afresh when this is all over and be a better version of ourselves;

On Beginnings

New Years resolutions don’t work.
The diet that starts tomorrow, doesn’t work.
Best selling author Dan Pink tells us there are 86 days to make a fresh start in the year; such as the first day of the month or week, or a birthday. I have to thank Mr Pink for many enlightening hours of his self-narrated audiobooks, but I vehemently disagree with him on this one.
If you need a fixed day at a determined (or undetermined) point in the future to change something that you’re not happy with, you’ve already failed.

If you find something that needs changing in your life, your diet, your iPhone addiction, your lack of exercise; or at work, take proper lunch breaks, don’t click on to Facebook during office hours, and you feel you have to start this tomorrow, or on Monday, or on the 1st if the month, you will fail.
We regularly meet as a team in work and with every meeting, we find some way of tweaking the way the practice runs, to improve the “patient experience”, this doesn’t start next week, it begins now.
When can you ever honestly say to yourself “well actually, I’m only wanting to improve my life as of this date”. If it’s not important enough to start right now, it’s not important enough.

This blog starts here. A regular remonstrative ramble through any and every topic that takes my flight of fancy. A place for me to record and publish my whimsical thoughts. If no one wants to read it, I have no problem with that, I’m still going to write.
