Back in 1999 I was working reasonably happily in Mirfield. My colleague there told me he was going to look at a practice that was for sale in Huddersfield. I will come with you I said, I know where that is, I live nearby. The rest as they say is history! 20 years later I am still here!
He decided practice ownership was not for him. So, I ended up buying Breare and Breare dental practice as it was then, on my own. I was planning a family at the time, I had not been planning to buy a practice, so Christine Breare kindly promised to come back if I needed maternity cover.
At the end of February 2000 Lindley dental was born. My son Alex was born that December!
20 years is a long time so I will try so here are a few highlights
The building has gone through several changes;
Building work 1 -a sterilising room upstairs, the large waiting room upstairs becomes a treatment room and the former office is the new smaller waiting room. Everything is very blue! Clocktower logo used. New dental chairs fitted.
Building work 2- the reception is updated including opening the entrance to it, improvements to both sterilising rooms, new logo and sign, pink, purple and grey are now our colours
Building work 3- the big one! We have an extra treatment room downstairs, the dumb waiter goes in, 2 sterilising rooms go to one larger modern one upstairs, all treatment rooms have new chairs and cabinets
Staff wise I work with a lovely team. Jackie Robinson on reception is the only one to have done the full 20 years but nurses Angie and Lisa are not far behind her. A big thank you to all of them past and present.
When I took over the practice was fully NHS, in 2003 we pulled out of the NHS for adults and now many of our patients are looked after using the Denplan scheme.
We have always looked to increase what we can offer patients. In my time we have added dental implants, adult orthodontics, IV sedation and more recently digital scanning/same day crowns to our range of treatments. We also started opening on a Saturday and a bit later on a Thursday. We now have a hygienist available every day of the week.
A big thank to all the lovely patients over that time, especially the ones who have been with me right from the start. They all made me feel very welcome. Christine and Kenneth were a hard act to follow hopefully I have carried on what they started. 20 years has just flown by I look forward to what maybe to come.
