Tomorrow is the start of the second lock down. I am delighted that this time dental practices can stay open. Yes, some dentistry is cosmetic but the majority is concerning your health and dentists do find mouth cancer. If we are closed, patients are not checked, and cancers get missed. Covid-19 is serious but other diseases don’t wait until it’s over.
At Lindley Dental we have worked hard at making our patient’s visit as safe as we can. We believe that for the majority of people the benefits of coming in outweigh any risk.
The oral health foundation have realised the latest State of Mouth Cancer UK report.
A summary of the key findings:
- New cases of mouth cancer in the UK have now reached 8,722 a year.
- This has increased by 5% compared with last year and 97% compared with 20 years ago.
- 58% of mouth cancers appear on the tongue and tonsils.
- Last year, 2,702 Brits lost their life to mouth cancer.
So please don’t let fear of covid put you off. Give us a ring or e mail us today and get your mouth checked. Early detection vastly improves outcome of oral cancer treatment. If you have questions or concerns give us a call.
As always you can reduce your mouth cancer risk by not smoking, keeping your alcohol intake low and having a healthy diet.
